As part of our program series - Climate Change and the Environment, we have made arrangements to tour Evolv1. Join your fellow Rotarians in a tour of the uniquely modern evolv1 urban office building in Waterloo, Ontario, the first-ever project to receive a Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) – Design certification under CaGBC’s Zero Carbon Building Standard, has now achieved dual certification with the addition of ZCB-Performance. This tour will be for a maximum of 20 members - registration confirmation on a first-come basis Covid protocols are in place including the wearing of masks and social distancing. Our next Dom Cardillo Trail Clean-Up will be on Thursday, April 21st (weather permitting). As usual, we will meet in the Stanley Park Mall parking lot near Walmart and the River Road entrance at 4:00 p.m. We will work in groups of 4 starting in different locations and maintaining social distance within each group. If interested, please join us afterwards for a social at the Whale & Ale Pub on Victoria Street To keep track of the numbers we would like members to sign up. As always, though, feel free to bring along family members but please indicate if you are doing so in the comments box on the registration page. |

Quarterly Dine-A-Round Event - Register as we go! Please register if you are interested in hosting or joining us for a Spring Tapas Menu. We will be limiting the attendees to 4 couples for each dinner group One couple will host and provide one tapas item and dessert and the remaining couples each bring two tapas items. Taspa: Tapas comes from the Spanish word tapar, which means “to cover” or “lid”. ... Traditionally they are small savoury dishes, snacks or appetisers of Spanish cuisine. It might be breads and meat, or a selection of dishes from ham, stuffed mussels, fried squid, to olives, sautéed mushroom and other vegetables. Please advise in the Comment section if you wish to host. Groups will be organized based on the number of hosts we have. Please let us know if you have any food sensitivities. For the safety of all guests, we ask that all registered members and guests be fully vaccinated. Please remember to REGISTER yourself and your guest and ADVISE YOUR CHOICE of HOST or GUEST AND SENSITIVITIES in the comment section. Mayor Berry Vrbanovic - In-person Meeting - May 9 Unfortunately, due to the rising number of COVID cases in this six wave, we are switching this meeting back to an online event via ZOOM and registration is no longer required. As the province moves to reduced post pandemic restrictions we are looking at returning to more in-person meetings. We are also looking at exploring some alternate venues. Our May 9th meeting is set to be held at the Charcoal Restaurant. We will have a fully private room with lunch served at a cost of $34.00 with tax and gratuity included which is to be paid in advance as part of registering for the event. Our guest speaker will be Mayor Berry Vrbanovic speaking on Post Pandemic Trends in the City. Our meeting will run from 12:00 to 1:30 as they have done in the past but the room will be available at 11:30 and members are welcome to come early and network. In keeping with current COVID restrictions, it is not required for attendees to be fully vaccinated but it is highly recommended. However, masks are to be worn when not consuming food. Lunch includes coffee or tea and dessert as well as one of the following main entrée options. Please review to facilitate quick ordering and serving at the event. Dietary restrictions will be accommodated by the server at time of order. CHARCOAL BURGER fresh ground Norwich township beef, smoked bacon, Monterey jack cheese, dill pickle, tomato, shredded lettuce, roasted garlic aioli, butter toasted sesame bun served with fries. LIVEWELL BURGER plant based black bean patty, cheddar sheeze, roasted sweet pepper, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, alfalfa sprouts, habanero lime aioli, toasted artisan bun served with fries. We are very pleased to announce that our meeting on Monday May 30 will be at the Region of Waterloo Airport. We will tour the new building and have a presentation by Airport General manager, Chris Wood. We will also induct three new members. Face masks will be mandatory and please note that there is paid parking at $5.00/hour. There will be no meal arranged for this event. Deadline to register is Wednesday, May 25.

The “rare” Charitable Research Reserve is a community-based urban land trust and environmental institute that protects over 1,200 acres of highly sensitive lands across 7 properties in Waterloo Region and Wellington County. The organization manages over 12 kilometres of trails free and open for the public. They seek to make the world a more sustainable place. They believe we can achieve this by acknowledging that people are a part of the environment. By working together, we can protect our natural spaces for our enjoyment and well-being, today and into the future. Join us for this family-friendly event beginning at noon. We will enjoy a Gourmet Boxed Lunch from EVO (see below) in the Slit Barn followed by a presentation and a trail walk (walking shoes recommended). Please note that we are not at the old Nicholson Tavern on the right when you first get into Blair, their main office. We are further down Blair Road on the left at the Slit barn pass the Walter Bean Trail entrance (watch for our sign). Lunch will be provided at a cost of $25.00.
