Online Auction Kick Off! Our annual Online Auction is our primary fundraiser, and it is critical that all club members get behind and support this activity. On Monday, September 22 we will have our official Kick Off for this campaign with lots of background information along with tools and tips to help you be successful. Please be sure to join us, we need you! Again, this will be a "Bring Your Own Lunch" (BYOL) affair at KidsAbility in Kitchener. Please note that there are several restaurants in the same plaza or near by to pick up a tasty treat. These include: Eggsmart, Tim Hortons, Gino's Pizza, Sushi Star, A&W, Mucho Burrito Fresh Mexican Grill, and, Hem's Hakka Restaurant.

First Rotary Peace Building Initiative Talk The concept of Peace building and promotion is fundamental to the work of Rotary. The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as the basis of a worthy enterprise which is achieved through four main points, one of which is advancing international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a global fellowship of people united by the ideal of service. Rotary's seven Areas of Focus are categories for service projects and activities that address some of the world's most pressing issues. The first of these is Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution. But what is peace? Please join us on Monday, October 6 for our First Rotary Peace Building Initiative Talk to explore this complex issue, with guest speaker Dr. Edmund Pries, a Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, specializing in Global Studies, Peace and Conflict, and Religion and Culture.

2nd Peace Initiative Talk As a follow up to our 1st Peace Initiatives Talk on October 6 our meeting on October 20 will be an opportunity to meet and engage with several of the students in the International Students Overcoming War program at Laurier University. Our host will again be Dr. Gavin Brockett, an associate professor of History and Religion and Culture and associate dean of Arts: Student Affairs and Learning. You don't need to have been at the first meeting to benefit from attending this session. As the promotion of peace is a key element in the work of Rotary, interacting with these ISOW students will enhance your understanding of what living in a conflict situation is truly like and what a passionate group of students are doing to promote peace. Light refreshments will be provided. We wil be meeting in the Board Room in the the Balsillie Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). Online Auction Sign Distribution A significant number of people who purchase items on our Online Auction indicate that they learn about the auction through our roadside / lawn signs. And, again this year we need your help to distribute these throughout the region. Our Sign Distribution has two components again this year. 1. All members are asked to pick up 2 or 3 signs to put up at their homes and/or place of business. Some were distributed at our meeting on October 6 but if you were not able to get them they will also be available on October 25 as per below. 2. We need an additional 8 to 10 members to take about 10 to 15 signs each and distribute them in a geographical area in the region assigned to you. This will only take about 1.5 to 2 hours at the start of the Auction on November 1. Note: Due to the start of the Auction close to Hallowe'en we are asking that the signs not be set up until November 1. We wil provide you with the rules for where signs can be placed. Signs will be available at our Auction Warehouse on the morning of Saturday, October 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon - Unit 105, 2085 Shirley Drive, Kitchener. All members are asked to respond by Thursday, October 23 and indicate in the Comment Box that: 1. You will participate in the full Sign Distribution in the region and pick up the signs on Saturday, October 25. OR 2. You will just be able to take 2 or 3 signs for use at your home and/or office and will pick these up on Saturday, October 25, or that you alreday have your signs picked up on October 6. OR 3. You would like to have 2 or 3 signs to have at your home and/or office but are unable to pick them up on October 21 or 25 and will need to make alternate arrangements to get them. We can deliver! A Tribute to Dave Martindale On Monday November 17 we will be having a tribute to former member Dave Martindale. Dave was a member for over 30 years who was instrumental in Kitchener Rotary becoming active in Rotary International Service and who played a major role in the creation of our Rotarian African Women's Education Fund (RAWEF). He also assisted many other District 7080 Clubs in running successful international projects. In recognition of his many contributions to Rotary International Service, Kitchener Rotary has donated $10,000 towards the building of a school in Kenya, with a section to be named in his honour. Please join us on November 17 as we hear more of work and contributions Dave made to international projects and we pay tribute to his outstanding Rotary service. NB! Distribution of Online Auction Items / Return of Lawn Sings We have all the spots filled for Saturday but still need help on Friday! Our online Auction is coming to an end, and, as in the past, assistance of members will be needed when the successful bidders come to pick up their items. We are in a new location this year - 2085 Shirley Drive, Kitchener, Unit #105. Our procedures will be similar to the past with usccesful bidders able to come to pick up their items on Friday between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. or Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. We will pre-package the items to be delivered out to the cars. Two helpers are needed for each of the following shifts: November 21 4:00 to 7:00 NB! The Power of the Rotary Foundation Through District and Global Grants - Tom Mennill - The motto of the Rotary International Foundation is "Doing Good In the World", and it truly is amazing all of the Good we Do indeed Do! When clubs develop local or international projects they can, depending upon the nature of the project, apply for District or Global grants to increase the funds available for the project. Kitchener Rotarians support the Rotary Foundation through the Every Rotarian - Every Year program by donating $100US annually. Join us on Monday, November 24 as our very own Tom Mennill, the Director of the District Foundation Committee explains how the system works and provides examples of the tremendous good done by the Rotary Foundation. The Alzheimer Society of Waterloo-Wellington Alzheimer's disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that destroys brain cells, causing thinking ability and memory to deteriorate over time. Alzheimer's disease is not a normal part of aging and is irreversible. While Alzheimer's has always been with us, attempts to understand and identify the disease and its impact didn't come about until very recently in human history. The Mission of the Alzheimer Society is: To alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and to promote the search for causes, treatments and a cure. January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and on January 12, Tom Connelly, the Volunteer and Events Coordinator for the Waterloo-Wellington Alzheimer Society, will be our guest speaker providing details on this debilitating disease and outlining volunteer opportunities with the society. The KW Habilitation Farm - Supporting Folks with Food Insecurity For the past 12 years the KW Habilitation Farm has been growing fresh organic produce for the community at KW Habilitation. In 2025 they grew $60,000.00 worth of produce to help supply their folks with nutritious veggies to their menus. Each week a large donation goes to their affordable housing apartment building 20+ apartments, House of Friendship and 3-4 times yearly to Soup Sisters. They are helping folks with food insecurity and to enhance their diets with nutritious seasonal veggies. Joining us for the presentation will be Jenny Weickert, the Farm Coordinator and Laura Bredschneider, the Agricultural Farmer. During the presentation they will explore all the good they do in our community, and how their Farm has made an impact. The farm is in need of storage at our Rural Location for tools, row covers, netting, crates etc. NB! Pre-Registration and meal selection is required!
