Program Highlights

Our program today was presented by our very own Tom Mennill, Director of Foundation for our District.  Tom spoke on the Importance of the Foundation and how effective District and Global Grants are to securing extra funds for projects.  Here are some highlights for his presentation.

He began by explaining the differences and connections between Rotary International itself, The Rotary Foundation and our own club Foundation:
Rotary International
  • Global association of Rotary & Rotaract Clubs
  • Supports Clubs worldwide
  • Coordinates global programs, campaigns and initiatives
The Rotary Foundation
  • Grants/Funding
    • Humanitarian
    • PolioPlus
    • Disaster Response
    • Programs of Scale
    • Scholarships
  • Rotary Peace Fellowships

The Rotary Foundation’s Motto
The Rotary Foundation helps Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.

The Rotary Foundations’ Seven Areas of Focus
  • All projects applying for grants through the Foundation must relate to one or more of the Areas of Focus.

Funding the Rotary Foundation
  • Members of Kitchener Rotary automatically become supporters of the Foundation through a $100US charge included annual in their club dues.
  • In addition members can make additional contributions to one of four funds within the Foundation:
  • Polio Plus
  • Endowment Fund
  • Disaster Relief Fund
  • The Annual Fund

How Grants Operate
  • Funds donated to the Foundation are invested and become available for grants after three years
  • The interest earned during the three years helps to pay for the management and operation of the Foundation
  • After the three years funds can be requested in the form of matching District or Global Grants back to the clubs to help found local or international humanitarian projects

Types of Grants
District Grants
