RASCK State of the Union Report

Brent DeKoning  provided the members with a report on the development of RASCK and the direction that it is working on for 2018.
RASCK was initiated by our club leadership in response to our declining membership number and as an attempt to develop a new style of Rotary that would attract younger people. It was decided that regular scheduled meeting and the cost of membership were seen as deterrents. The initial structure includes 2 meetings per month, the first meeting of the month has a social and business focus. The business portion focuses on the planning for the service focus of the second meeting in the month. The leadership and organization was shared with no formal hierarchy while maintaining the focus of social and service in our community.
Some of the service activities during the past year have included Nutrition for Learning, bowling with Bridges Belonging, gift wrapping at the mall, and car draw. The plans for 2018 include
  • Better synergies between RASCK and our club
  • Communications within RASCK and with our club
  • Fund raising with our club
  • Developing a description of what a typical RASCK member looks like
  • The relationship with a donator
  • Continuous service projects
  • Decision making process and leadership
  • Long term membership number goal
Questions and Comments

Peter Gray spoke favourably of the focus for RASCK, but expressed concern about the committed involvement of club members on environmental hands on projects. He encouraged involvement with trail cleanup, tree planting, World Water Day and Rotary’s WASRAG program.

Bill Proctor confirmed the activities of RASCK including the minimizing of rules, sorting out program as the club develops and he suggests inductions take place at RASCK meetings rather than Rotary Club of Kitchener meetings if necessary.

John Webster sees RASCK as a means to get more people helping more people
