President's Comments
During the meeting President Dave announced that Elena Shpinel has been elected to the position of President-Elect for this Rotary year and will serve as club president for the 2025-2026 Rotary Year.
Bell Ringers
Several members were recognised as Bell Ringers this week.
President Dave thanked Treasurer Ray Taylor, Finance Committee Chair Louise Gardiner, and all of the members of the Finance Committee for all of their ongoing work managing the club’s finances and in particular dealing with changes in record keeping systems and banks this year.
Also recognised were Ailton Santana and all of the members of the Online Auction Committee for the running of another very successful fundraiser.
Happy Jar
Dave Chatson is happy to have a $20 bill to give to Ray Taylor (reason undisclosed) and is very delighted that Elena has agreed to serve as President-Elect.
Neil Swayze was very happy to have been able to recently have some vacation time in Madeira and says he is now ready (almost) for our winter weather.
Louise Gardiner was also away recently, thoroughly enjoying her time in in the Azores. She describes it as a most beautiful area and invites anyone looking for information on it to contact her.
Lumi Mironescu is happy that our exchange student, Saimi will be participating in the local The World of Lights event with over 6,000 lights. She is also very pleased that our outbound student, Ella, her daughter is doing great in Japan, having recently given her first presentation ijn Japanese. Videos and letters are available on our website.
Membership Updates
Dave Smith has resigned from the club due to personal reasons. He was a very long-standing member and his resignation was received by the board with regret.
Club Announcements
Board of Directors Voting for 2025-2026
All members are encouraged to complete and submit the revised Ballot for electing board directors for the next Rotary year as quickly as possible.
Club Holiday Social with Pie/Dessert Auction
Our Annual Club Holiday Social will be next Monday, December 09 at Westmount Golf Club. E-mail invitations have been sent and all members are encouraged to attend this fun filled, club networking event. Members able to bring a pie or other dessert item for our Auction are asked to let Louise Gardiner know.
A Better Tent City – Winter Clothing Drive
Second-hand, gently used items, such as, men's and women's winter coats & boots (any size] are needed, as well as, hats, mitts/gloves, scarves, sweaters/hoodies and sweatpants. If you don't have such items then please consider purchasing men's or ladies underwear or long underwear, T-shirts (any size).
Our Exchange Student Saimi
Members are reminded to keep Saimi in mind for any family events, trips, outings, etc., in which she could be included to experience life in Canada in as many ways as possible. Contact Lumi if you have any questions or have an event to which Saimi could be invited.
