President's Comments
President Adrian welcomed all to our meeting today in this our 65th week of our 18 month anniversary “year”
Guests
Elena Cristache, guest of Lumi Mironescu
Bell Ringer(s)
Our Bell Ringers today were Emma Marriott (along with husband Ryan), Lew Ford, Erin Way and Bill Proctor who represented our club in the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation / Orange Shirt Day walk last Friday.
Happy Jar
Martin Jones was happy that our club responded quickly to the request to support a Ukrainian refugee family traveling from France to Winnipeg through Montreal and our region. Their complicated travel arrangements had them staying for one night here in KW and Martin and wife Diane were pleased to provide them with accommodation and to get them back to the airport the next day for the final leg of their journey to Winnipeg. The family traveled through Ukraine and Poland to France where they were assisted by the Rotary Club of Chateau du Loir et Chartre Sur Le Loir and Martin presented one of their club banners to President Adrian.
Wife his wife away in Ireland, Jim Brown is overjoyed to be overdosing on sports with 4 soccer games, 3 NFL games and 3 Blue Jay games just on the weekend alone, and, of course, enjoying the requisite copious beer and snacks that go with the sports viewing.
Lumi Mironescu is very pleased that her daughter Ella is able to volunteer and participate in many of our club activities. She is also proud the Ella has been chosen as the leader of the orchestra at WCI.

Catch The Ace
Another week and still no Ace of Spades! Last week's winner Klaudios M. chose card #52 revealing the ten of Diamonds. He won the weekly prize of $1,807, our largest weekly prize in this round.
YOU could be our next winner! But you need to have a ticket! When you buy tickets you have a chance to win the weekly prize and if your card is the Ace of Spades you will also win the Progressive Prize which will be over $35,000. The next weekly draw is on Thursday October 6th. The deadline to get your tickets as always is Wednesday at Midnight.
Don't forget that you have to purchase a ticket the week of the draw to qualify for both the weekly and progressive jackpot! When you play Catch the Ace not only do you have a chance to win great prizes but you also win by knowing that the net proceeds will all be going to KidsAbility.
100th Anniversary Projects with the City
The rebuilding of the Duke Street Elevation (Rotary Plaza) behind city hall has seen some construction delays due to additional repair work needed to the unground structure and replace of deteriorating sandstone. As a result the work will likely not be completed until next summer when we will be having a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony. However, to have a celebration within our anniversary time frame the plaque for the area will be unveiled and dedicated at a special ceremony at city hall in late November or early December. Stay tunjed for more details!
As has been reported in the media there is now a homeless encampment on Roos Island in Victoria Park. This situation will be dealt with, along with the similar situations in the region through political channels. We, and the city are still committed to having the refurbishment of the Band Stand done but it won’t happen until the area is no longer occupied. All of the planning for the work has been done and once the area is accessible the tenders will be sent out with work to begin shortly thereafter, likely in the spring of next year.
