Club Meeting - All About RYLA With Ella Mironescu
Jul. 27, 2026 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

All About RYLA With Ella Mironescu

Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) is an intensive training program that brings together youth and young adults (18 to 29) to further develop character and leadership skills and learn about Rotary.  RYLA gives Rotarians the opportunity to mentor promising young leaders serving their own communities and beyond. Rotarians serve as resources for participants on the path to becoming professional and community leaders. In turn, RYLA can bring new energy to a Rotary district, inspire ideas for service and increase support of community service projects.

Each year Kitchener Rotary sponsors a local young adult to the four-day District 7080 RYLA event at the Ecology Retreat Centre in Orangeville in late April / early May.  This year we were pleased to sponsor Ella Mironescu, our former exchange student.  Please join us on Monday evening, July 27 to hear Ella talk of her experiences at this unique Rotary event.

Club Meeting - The Working Centre & ABTC
Sep. 14, 2026 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

The Working Centre, A Better Tent City, and Kitchener Rotary
an Update with Joe Mancini

For several years Kitchener Rotray has had a supportive relationship with A Better Tent City (ABTC) which has now come under the control of The Working Centre.  On September 14 our guest speaker will be Joe Mancini, the Director of the Working Centre who will tell us what this change in management structure will mean for A Better Tent City and our relationship with them.

Joe Mancini was part of the group that established ABTC back in 2020. During those years, The Working Centre (TWC) focused on responding to growing homelessness.  At the height of the COVID Pandemic, TWC supported 230 people in shelter.  Five years later, presently, each night the Working Centre is supporting close to 220 people in different shelter forms including ABTC.  Joe will describe this work and give context to the wider work of The Working Centre.

Be sure to join us for this important and timely presentation.

NB! Pre-Registration and meal selection is required!

We will be at the Charcoal Restaurant for this meeting in the Board Room with lunch served at a cost of $32, tax and gratuity included; paid in advance when registering.  Doors open at 11:30 with the program commencing at 12:00 noon.  Lunch includes coffee or tea and one of the main entrées listed below.  Indicate your meal selection and any dietary restrictions in the comment box on the registration confirmation screen.

Not In My City - Anti Human Trafficking Campaign
with Cherri Greeno and Insp. Aaron Mathais of the

Human Trafficking is one of the fastest-growing crimes nationally and globally, generating billions of dollars annually, second to illegal arms trafficking and the drug trade. You can help put a stop to this by becoming an ally and joining in on the Not In My City Campaign. This campaign was created by Paul Brandt to raise awareness and take collective action to prevent and end human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Cherri and Aaron have been working with several organizations in Waterloo Region to help bring awareness and show how, when we all work together, we can put an end to this terrible crime.

This is a Bring A Guest to Rotary Event!

The KW Basketeers - Helping Women and Children in Our Community

The KW Basketeers raise money and collect new items from our local community, family and friends to put together baskets of items to donate to women and children living in the YWCA’s supportive housing units.  Last year they donated 45 large baskets and 45 smaller bags with items to 90 women and 30 children.  They use any money raised to buy gifts for the children and to supplement any items needed for the baskets to keep them equal.  Some examples of items found in the baskets are: towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, dental hygiene items, coffee mugs, tea towels, socks, winter hats, mitts, gloves, cake/cookie mixes, chocolate and gift cards to Tim Hortons or Walmart.

Last year our club supported this group with a financial donation and on Monday, October 26, coordinators April Scida and Jody Goddard will be our guest presenters to tell us more of their efforts and how our contributed funds helped them with the work they do.

NB! Pre-Registration and meal selection is required for both you and your guest!

This will be an evening meeting at the Double Tree by Hilton in the Michigan Room with dinner served at a cost of $35, tax and gratuity included; paid in advance when registering.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the program commencing at 7:00 p.m.  Dinner includes coffee or tea and one of the main entrées listed below.  Indicate your meal selection and any dietary restrictions in the comment box on the registration confirmation screen.

Deadline for registering is Thursday, October 22.
